What is ABA?

The gold-standard therapy for autism and developmental differences

Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) is a scientifically validated therapy that uses principles of learning and behaviour to improve meaningful skills in children. It is widely recognised globally as the most effective early intervention for autism spectrum disorder (ASD).

At Prottasha, our trained behaviour analysts assess each child individually and design a highly personalised, data-driven programme that targets the skills most important for your child's independence and quality of life β€” communication, social interaction, self-care, learning and play.

We work hand-in-hand with parents, teachers and our wider therapy team to ensure goals are consistent across home, school and therapy settings.

Our Approach

How our ABA programme works

Every step is structured, measurable and built around your child's unique needs and strengths.

πŸ”
Step 1 β€” Assessment
A comprehensive evaluation of your child's skills, strengths, interests and areas of need using standardised assessment tools (e.g. VB-MAPP, ABLLS).
πŸ“‹
Step 2 β€” Goal Setting
We collaborate with you to set clear, meaningful and measurable goals across communication, social, self-care, play and academic skills.
🎯
Step 3 β€” Intervention
Structured 1:1 sessions using evidence-based strategies β€” discrete trial training, natural environment teaching, pivotal response training and more.
πŸ“Š
Step 4 β€” Data Collection
Every session is tracked with detailed data. We measure progress objectively and adjust the programme continuously based on what the data shows.
πŸ‘¨β€πŸ‘©β€πŸ‘§
Step 5 β€” Parent Training
We coach you in ABA techniques so therapy continues at home β€” dramatically accelerating your child's progress and generalisation of skills.
πŸ”„
Step 6 β€” Review & Adjust
Regular review meetings with you to celebrate achievements, update goals and refine the programme so your child always keeps moving forward.

FAQ

Common questions about ABA therapy

ABA is most commonly used for autism spectrum disorder, and has the strongest research evidence in this area. However, its principles are effective for any child who needs structured, motivating and data-driven support β€” including children with ADHD, intellectual disabilities, developmental delays and language disorders.

Research shows that early intensive ABA (20–40 hours per week) produces the best outcomes for young children with autism. However, every child is different. At Prottasha, we tailor the intensity to your child's needs, age and family circumstances β€” beginning with a clinical assessment and building from there. Even fewer hours per week can produce meaningful progress when combined with strong parent training.

ABA, SLT and OT are complementary, not competing. ABA addresses the broader learning, behaviour and skill acquisition framework. SLT focuses specifically on communication and language. OT addresses sensory processing and motor development. At Prottasha, all three work together under one roof β€” our team collaborates to create one unified plan for your child so there is no duplication or contradiction between programmes.

Yes β€” all sessions at Prottasha are conducted in Bengali and English, with culturally relevant materials and examples. We understand the Bangladeshi family context deeply and incorporate it into all programmes, including our parent training workshops.

It is never too late. While early intervention (before age 5) produces the fastest gains, children of all ages benefit from ABA. Older children and teenagers can make significant progress in communication, life skills, employment readiness and behaviour management. We offer programmes adapted for different ages and stages at Prottasha.
